TOURIST TRAVEL:

OVERVIEW
VISA NOT REQUIRED FOR STAYS LESS THEN 90 DAYS, PASSPORT REQUIRED
For US citizens you must have a valid passport to enter the Republic of Korea. Although obtaining a visa in advance can ease the entry process, as long as you have a valid U.S. passport, you can enter the Republic of Korea without a visa for a stay of up to 90 days if you are a tourist or on business.

TOURIST VISA:

Step 1 - Gather the Following Requirements

 1.1

Current Passport

Applicant must submit their current passport. South Korea visas are stamped into a passport, therefore the the original passport is required.
Note: In order to obtain South Korea visas, passport must have one blank visa page (typically the last few pages of the passport are marked "Amendment" and are not valid for visas) and must be valid for at least six months past the date of entry into South Korea.

 1.2

Photo Requirement

Applicant must submit two (2) identical, color, passport style photographs. The photos must be recent and generally should not be the same used for the passport itself. Passport photos can be obtained at most post offices, Kinko's, Walgreens, etc.

 1.3

Proof of Travel

Applicant must submit a computer-generated itinerary from a travel agency or online booking tool (such as e-confirmation from an airline or Travelocity, Orbitz, etc) showing departure from the U.S. and arrival/departure for South Korea.

Although applicant may be submitting documents along with other family members, when submitted to an embassy or consulate, applications are treated individually. If applicant is under 18 years old, include the following:
1) Color copies of parents valid passports. If either, or both, parents do not have valid passports, include color copies of driver's license or other state issued ID. If either, or both, parents are not US citizens, include copies of ID and copies of US visa or permanent resident card (Green card).
2) Include a letter of authorization for child to obtain visa and travel.

 1.4

Hotel Confirmation

Applicant must submit a confirmed hotel reservation provided by either the hotel directly or web booking tool (such as an email confirmation) or from a travel agent.
If applicant is staying with friends or family, then submit a letter of invitation from the host listing dates, purpose of visit and address. Also include a copy of the information page of the hosts passport (if not a South Korean national, also include a copy of the hosts residency permit).

Bank Statement

Applicant must submit most recent bank statement. Applicant must show on most recent statement sufficient funds to support themselves during the visit (generally this equals $200 USD per day in country).
Bank statement should be originals, although print outs of online statements are often accepted.

 1.6

Visa Application

Applicant must submit one completed South Korea visa application. Applications should be printed single-sided and signed in blue or black ink only.

BUSINESS TRAVEL:

Business Cover Letter 

Applicant must submit a Business Cover Letter (BCL) from a U.S. company. The BCL must be an original signed document on company letterhead indicating the date, duration and purpose of travel to South Korea, list a contact and address at the host company, and observe moral and financial responsibility for the applicant.

 1.6

Visa Application

Applicant must submit one completed South Korea visa application. Applications should be printed single-sided and signed in blue or black ink only.
