OVERVIEW
For US citizens a passport and a Nigerian visa to enter the country are required. In most cases, visas cannot be obtained on arrival at the airport. Promises of entry into Nigeria without a visa are strong indicators of fraudulent commercial schemes in which the perpetrators seek to exploit the foreign traveler's illegal presence in Nigeria through threats of extortion or bodily harm. Moreover, you cannot legally depart Nigeria unless you can prove, by presenting your entry visa, that you entered Nigeria legally.

The following applies to U.S. Citizens ONLY:

TOURIST TRAVEL:

Step 1 - Gather the Following Requirements

 1.1

Current Passport

Applicant must submit their current passport. Nigeria visas are stamped into a passport, therefore the the original passport is required.
Note: In order to obtain Nigeria visas, passport must have one blank visa page (typically the last few pages of the passport are marked "Amendment" and are not valid for visas) and must be valid for at least six months past the date of entry into Nigeria.

 1.2

Photo Requirement

Applicant must submit two (2) identical, color, passport style photographs. The photos must be recent and generally should not be the same used for the passport itself. Passport photos can be obtained at most post offices, Kinko's, Walgreens, etc.

 1.3

Proof of Travel

Applicant must submit a computer-generated itinerary from a travel agency or online booking tool (such as e-confirmation from an airline or Travelocity, Orbitz, etc) showing departure from the U.S. and arrival/departure for Nigeria.

Although applicant may be submitting documents along with other family members, when submitted to an embassy or consulate, applications are treated individually. If applicant is under 18 years old, include the following:
1) Color copies of parents valid passports. If either, or both, parents do not have valid passports, include color copies of driver's license or other state issued ID. If either, or both, parents are not US citizens, include copies of ID and copies of US visa or permanent resident card (Green card).
2) Include a letter of authorization for child to obtain visa and travel.

 1.4

Accommodation Confirmation

If applicant is staying in a hotel, applicant must submit a confirmed hotel reservation provided by either the hotel directly or web booking tool (such as an email confirmation) or from a travel agent.
If applicant is staying at a residence, applicant must submit a letter of invitation from the host indicating as such and include a copy of their passport or ID card. If inviter is not a Nigerian citizen, also include a copy of the inviters Nigerian visa or residency permit.

Bank Statements

Although not technically required, applicant is highly advised to submit 3 months of recent bank statements. This is often requested by the embassy and can delay processing if not submitted with other documents.

 1.6

Visa Application

Applicant must submit one completed Nigeria visa application online AND one hand filled one. Online application requires visa fee payment online ($112.00) through the Nigerian government web site. An additional payment is made for processing.

Note: Once complete, print a copy of the Visa Acknowledgment Slip and Visa Payment Slip. Applicant must submit both of these documents in addition to the requirements above and the form from step 2 below.

BUSINESS TRAVEL:

Business Cover Letter 

Applicant must submit a Business Cover Letter (BCL) from a U.S. company. The BCL must be an original signed document on company letterhead indicating the date, duration and purpose of travel to Nigeria, list a contact and address at the host company, and observe moral and financial responsibility for the applicant.

 1.6

Letter of Invitation

Applicant must submit a Letter of Invitation from the inviting party or organization in Nigeria. The letter should introduce the applicant, detail the purpose of the trip to Nigeria, provide dates of the visit and be signed by a company officer with contact details included.
Note: In addition, Letter's of Invitation must contain the following: "Our company will accept full immigration responsibility for [insert applicants name]"
Scanned/printed copies are generally acceptable.

 1.7

Certificate of Incorporation

Applicant must submit Certificate or Letter of Incorporation for both the company in Nigeria and the company in the US.

 1.8

Visa Application
