VISA REQUIRED, PASSPORT REQUIRED

OVERVIEW
For US citizens Brazil requires U.S. citizens to carry a valid U.S. passport and visa when traveling to Brazil for any purpose. You must obtain your Brazilian visa in advance from the Brazilian Embassy or Consulate nearest to your place of residence in the United States. There are no "airport visas" and immigration authorities will refuse entry into Brazil to anyone not possessing a valid visa. The U.S. government cannot assist you if you arrive in Brazil without proper documentation.

TOURIST TRAVEL:


Step 1 - Gather the Following Requirements

 1.1

Current Passport

Applicant must submit their current passport. Brazil visas are stamped into a passport, therefore the the original passport is required.
Applicant must also include a copy of the information page of the passport.
Note: In order to obtain Brazil visas, passport must have two (2) blank facing visa pages (typically the last few pages of the passport are marked "Amendment" and are not valid for visas) and must be valid for at least six months past the date of entry into Brazil.

 1.2

Photo Requirement

Applicant must submit two (2) identical, color, passport style photographs. The photos must be recent and generally should not be the same used for the passport itself. Passport photos can be obtained at most post offices, Kinko's, Walgreens, etc.

 1.3

Proof of Travel

Applicant must submit a computer-generated itinerary from a travel agency or online booking tool (such as e-confirmation from an airline or Travelocity, Orbitz, etc) showing departure from the U.S. and arrival/departure for Brazil.

If applicant is under 18, applicant must include:
1) A legible copy of a state issued birth certificate;
2) Color photo copy of parents passports or drivers license;
3) A notarized form of authorization from parents. PLEASE NOTE: The form requires a separate notarization for each parent (this may be done by the same notary, but once for each parent):

Proof of Residency

Applicant must submit legible color copy of their driver's license or state issued ID. If applicant has recently moved and not updated their ID, applicant must also provide a recent utility bill.

 1.5

Visa Application

Applicant must submit one completed Brazil visa application. The application is completed online. After clicking the link below to launch the application site:
1) Click the british flag on the lower left to select English as your language.

2) Select "VISA REQUEST" in the third box to begin the process.
3) Answer the questions and press "Next" to continue. There will be several pages each with a few questions. There is no need to print each page as you go through the process.
4) After completing application, print the confirmation form which is one page with very little information on it. Applicant must sign inside rectangular box toward bottom of page and include with documents above. The two lines below the box may be left blank.

5) Special Notice: In order to avoid delays, please ensure you are selecting the correct visa type. Those applying for tourist visas – even if the intent is to attend world cup events and you are applying for a tourist visa because you do not have the requirements for a world cup visa, you MUST select your visa type as, “TOURISM”. If you order a world cup visa without having the proper documentation, your visa application will take more than 1 month to process.
Note: The Brazilian governments online application is not fully compatible with FireFox/Macintosh. It is recommended applicant use Internet Explorer on a PC platform.

BUSINESS TRAVEL:

Business Cover Letter 

Applicant must submit a Business Cover Letter (BCL) from a U.S. company. The BCL must be an original signed document on company letterhead indicating the date, duration and purpose of travel to Brazil, list a contact and address at the host company, and observe moral and financial responsibility for the applicant. Please review the example below.

Visa Application

Applicant must submit one completed Brazil visa application. The application is completed online. After clicking the link below to launch the application site:
