REQUIREMENTS FOR U.S. CITIZENS TO OBTAIN VISA TO ENTER LAOS
OVERVIEW
For US citizens you must have both a passport and visa to enter Laos; your passport must also have at least six months validity remaining. Travelers are encouraged to obtain visas in advance, however in some cases may obtain upon arrival.
TOURIST VISA:
Step 1 - Gather the Following Requirements

Current Passport |

Applicant must submit their current passport. Laos visas are stamped into a passport, therefore the the original passport is required.
Note: In order to obtain Laos visas, passport must have one blank visa page (typically the last few pages of the passport are marked "Amendment" and are not valid for visas) and must be valid for at least six months past the date of entry into Laos. |

Photo Requirement |

|
Applicant must submit three (3)identical, color, passport style photographs. The photos must be recent and generally should not be the same used for the passport itself. Passport photos can be obtained at most post offices, Kinko's, Walgreens, etc. |

Proof of Travel |
|
|
|
Applicant must submit a computer-generated itinerary from a travel agency or online booking tool (such as e-confirmation from an airline or Travelocity, Orbitz, etc) showing departure from the U.S. and arrival/departure for Laos.
Although applicant may be submitting documents along with other family members, when submitted to an embassy or consulate, applications are treated individually. If applicant is under 18 years old, include the following:
1) Color copies of parents valid passports. If either, or both, parents do not have valid passports, include color copies of driver's license or other state issued ID. If either, or both, parents are not US citizens, include copies of ID and copies of US visa or permanent resident card (Green card).
2) Include a letter of authorization for child to obtain visa and travel.

Applicant must submit a Business Cover Letter (BCL) from a U.S. company. The BCL must be an original signed document on company letterhead indicating the date, duration and purpose of travel to Laos, list a contact and address at the host company, and observe moral and financial responsibility for the applicant. Please review the example below. |

Letter of Invitation |
|
|
|
Applicant must submit a Letter of Invitation from the inviting party or organization in Laos. The letter should introduce the applicant, detail the purpose of the trip to Laos, provide dates of the visit and be signed by a company officer with contact details included. The letter must indicate approval from the Immigration Department in Vientiane
Scanned/printed copies are generally acceptable. |

- Nature of business to be performed
- Name and address of reference to be visited
- Guarantee of return transportation and sufficient funds
- Letter is signed by company manager, other than applicant.
